Over 100 neighborhood residents are celebrated on the Bronzeville Walk of Fame. Honoring extraordinary contributions to the community of 91 African American's . Their plaques are on medians, sidewalks, and crosswalks of ten blocks. At 26th Pl. and 35th St., the area is a permanent outdoor exhibit.

Opened in 1913 as a burlesque and only served whites. patrons. In 1934 it became a venue for black performers. Frank Schiffman and family operated the theater from 1935. Manhattan borough president Percy Sutton bought it at an auction in 1981. The Apollo reopened in 1985 following a major refurbishment that saw the construction of new recording studios. In 1991, the New York State Urban Development Corporation bought the Apollo and assigned its operation to the nonprofit Apollo Theater Foundation.
